motivational speaker

i was on the news tonight, i just found out about an hour ago so i didnt get to do a 24 hr notice on this forum. maybe you saw it, if not then too bad.

they might have the video or some link on the www.abc4.com site.

im thinking of moving into motivational speaking, since these posters i have are what goes through my mind any way.

something like this is bound to get anyone out of bed in the morning.

funny emails are pouring in.

Q: Chris, what's up, bro? I saw you on the news just now. Told my wife, shit, I know a guy named chris fox from salt lake and it turned out to be you. Crazy. How you doin? Haven't seen you since Floyd bailed out on us at Mammoth mountain and you rode along up to Washington in my truck with Andy J and we nailed that Jack rabbit and lopped his head off. You sure you want to do this auction deal? I support you if you do, but there might be another way to go about creating the paradigm shift of the american obsession with material goods. My wife and I moved from Michigan to Salt Lake three years ago. Where you gonna race this weekend? Five mile pass? Last race I tried was the Durango 100 two years ago. It sucked. Now I just play golf and shit. Holla Back dawg. Mike O'Reilly P.S. You think Floyd became just like the rest of those skinny road pro dope heads? You think he's dirty?

ya thats right back in 94 i was hangin wit floyd. we were experts.
hell ya

andy j is andrew juskaitis, the tall weird dude at giant.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

mike is more crazy than me, damn thats bad.

and im starting to sound like sager name droppin. that is terrible.

are crits gay, or am i?

check out the smooth pedaling action

domination by dh's pain train, dh, and team one man health net. oh ya and dont forget the all season wonder, victories in feb, march, april, may, june, aug, sept, oct, nov, dec. taking the 2nd spot.

quote of the week from bg, "i want to come here to get some flat land power, big ring speed since i dont have any"

ok whatever.

i cant say much more than that.

ok well maybe i can. foaming rant, foaming like jeffs pic above. foaming at the mouth.

neutral first laps, what the hell is this about. its a bike race. go hard or go home.
these 2 chicks at the race who run the show, i wont name drop. they say take a parade lap. that is the gayest thing i have heard in 23 days. "its for safety"

ya ok safety, then tell everyone to bring their downhill armor, full face helmets. since its for safety. you got 200 squirrels out there over lapping wheels and running into each other breaking bones.

im calling ed and matt o, we are going to have neutral laps at all the cross races and ICUPS cuz you know its dangerous on that first lap and we dont need crashes.

oh ya and at all the hill climbs and TT's its neutral for the first mile cuz we dont need anyone getting hurt.

this one girl is in town

if you dont know my pal laini here you go, the digs in sunny san diego. i guess we are going to moab tomorrow. her and the girls are runners and like running 13 miles in a row. that sounds like hell, so i will check out the rim ride route.

then i think shes going to some music carnival in miami next week. sorry i cant make it. got to ride in moab for like 10 hours.
check out my sweet bib

fred at poison spider sent me this map and marked off the trail for me, so i guess i better check out some of it. i know about half those trails but its been a few years. hope i dont get lost.

i guess this means im going down next week and ride with some locals and follow wheels for as long as possible.

if i dont feel like finishing i wont. but i would like to try it anyway. sounds kind of fun is some sick way. i wonder if adam or bionic dave will be there

i like global warming so keep driving

its hot out there and thats a good thing. keep driving and burning coal. keep your lights on and buying stuff. wasting and consuming. it helps my mood, the day is longer and its warm. the trail is dry and its not muddy.

for all of this i want the planet to burn forests and over fish the seas.

yes im selfish.

so keep up the good work.

i got 20 boxes of girl scout cookies, yesterday i was kind of sick cuz i ate 2 boxes one for lunch and one for dinner. get these things out of here before i throw up.

im giving them away, tagalongs and samoas. so if you want any highly processed crap, sugar and hydrogenated oil hurry up cuz once slowran gets a hold of them, well thats that.

who can resist the big ring and the dry creek on a day like this,
time to go
bz sent this from the 13th floor 1 south main. down town in the big city. SLC.
not sure why, maybe its the view. maybe hes dreamin of ripping 1 track on nice day but has to work for the man.

forrest wanted some info, so i gave it to him.

from forrest gladding, a crazy 1 speed guy, snow boarder and racer i knew back in the 90's, also, who likes pow pow and shreds little cottonwood in summer and winter.
blog it here

Cris, this will be my intro followed by the questions.

When I was younger I lived in Colorado and raced mtn bikes. There were a few names that the Colorado boys feared from Utah: Osguthorpe, Nobis, and Fox. This was back before cell phones and the internet. News had it of a kid that was winning all the races a state next to us. I got to ask him a few questions.

1) Hardest bonk? well mostly these come on training rides since i dont eat or drink anything. well, come to think of it i dont eat or drink during a race so it might be that the race/adrenaline takes over and i barely make it to the line in a semi normal state of mind. i have a bad habit of taking off way too hard and surviving trying to get the to the finish without many people passing me.

2)Proudest result?

well the first thing comes to mind is the tour of gila road stage 5. cat 2 in 2003. i dominated the wests best on the hardest stage.check it here.
http://www.tourofthegila.com/2003race/day5mens2.html
last year it was the 50 mile race in park city on july 22nd. i got lost and they gave me a dnf, but i still won the race.a month later on aug. 26th they had it again and i won it again, this time i didnt get lost.
results at www.thee100.com

3)Do you really not wear a helmet when not racing?
i never wear the helmet, i think they are gay and if they wouldnt make me during a race i would never wear it then either.
i dont crash, except when the green lantern follows me, or if i fall its at slow speed and i never need it. i do tip over like once a year but that doesnt count. this may sound stupid but i never go out of control, i dont believe People or cars just dont run into me so that whole mind set pisses me off. i am always in control and i attract to me what i want. i dont need chaos, idiots or traffic accidents around me so i dont allow those people to interfere with my surroundings.
there is a whole different mind set to this philosophy? that people dont know about or want to believe. and it has nothing to do with hitting a tree or having an asteroid land on you.

4)First race?

thats funny cuz its on the trail that i ride like 4 times a week in the summer. part of the trail that i know backwards, have been on over 100 times.
irony,
wild rose 1988 had some crazy loop up on the what is now agony escalator, shoreline into city creek and up around the ensign peak radio towers. i got last and i remember bonking really bad but didnt know what was going on. dehydrated and blown, 3 hrs later im done and ride downtown at hardees trying to figure out how to get home out in west jordan. i rode home and that took about another 1.5 hrs. that day was pain and suffering a great intro to the next 20 yrs of my life. yaaa

5)First mtn bike ride and how old?

i had a bmx bike but in 87 i picked up the goose, tomac special with 18 gears. i was 14, rode it around corner canyon and did a few sundance races where me and bart locked horns for the first time. we both smoked the sport class, all ages were combined and they couldnt hang with the 8th graders.

6)First win?
well i won most all the junior races around here, a lot of combined sport races. i dont know the first one probably like the 2nd or 3rd one i did. i started winning junior norbas in the 90's got on the national team and raced durango 1990 worlds. that sucked, then italy 1991 and got 2nd.
hell ya

7)Has NORBA killed mtn bike racing or are you still stoked on it?

norba is gay, they ruined it.
i just go cuz thats the biggest race. the courses are lame and there are no people there, racing or not. the spectators dont care about it, and the racers dont either. last year was lame, i was at 70% of normal physically,
lined up with 12 guys and won. come on that is out of hand. back in 1992 experts lined up with over 200 guys. now its down to stupid age groups and 12 guys at a "BIG" race.

really gay.

9)Biggest local influence from the cycling world?

local? nobody, i knew a few guys that were good back in 90's i dont think they influenced me. they were just drunks and stoners. so a few years later i dropped them.
i used to like tomac back in 90 through 95 but then he retired and the since then the sport has been dominated by dopers who dont know how to drive a bike, cant hang on the dh and are consumed with sponsors, road bike fitness and world cup points.i say this in general and there are a few exceptions to my critical answer.

thats a tragedy.

i never saw climb-um, what the hell

i was on the look out and i got dissed.
bz found him up on the shoreline.

but here is some good news straight off the email.

numerology lesson 101. i learned this today, im #11. you get the number by your b-day. add it up like this 08+10+1973.

use the single digits like 8+1+1+9+7+3. thats 29. then add the 2+9 and get 11. so im 11.

heres what they say, sounds right i guess.

especially this part;

However, when you feel you have been mistreated or jilted, you can react with devastating power, sometimes using personal criticisms vindictively.

i found 5 bucks in the road, ya 2 a days.

you know things are starting to happen when you find money in the road. not just smashed pennies and crappy nickels, im talking lincolns and washingtons.

yaa

i got in 2.5 hrs, the 2 a days. thats like 2 rides with a break in the middle. rip it up with the autos then hit the shoreline and burn some dh and try not to scare the hikers.

i saw mark out the road bike, then the contender crew, ryan, quin, reed, i was hauling so much a$$ i didnt get them on the photo shoot.

and these guys, shaun & bz, bad pic. of bz's head. rippin the dh on the giant HT.

yaaaa

the dry creek is dry, shore line is a ripper. if you are wondering, no mud. which is surprising to me.
i have not been up there since feb 1 in this blizzard. lots of time down south or napping on the couch. i have not been on the old stand by of the DC TT. if you want to break the record its 27 mins. thats dry creek up over to the pavement at city creek.

i wonder if i will see climb-um tomorrow, he might bring me a package.

timing is everything

i've said it before, and say it again. if you dont know this yet you need to learn it.
meeting or seeing friends crossing paths, 1 minute earlier or later and the connection would never have happened.
make a wrong decision in a race and miss the break or get caught in the domino pile up.
pin it to win it too early and blow up.

timing it to perfection. take a risk, blow it or get glory. ya glory.

i filmed the tv today abc4, supposedly it was going on today but some people got lost on snow mobiles at strawberry so now it might be on friday. we'll see, its about timing but at least its on tape.

i have a new kick ass music mix on sly space, check it out.

its like 70 outside so im out the door for a few hours on the road bike. ya the new road bike.

slurrrr rib eats at rib city

so the green lantern comes up with best saying all year, but first you have to know the history of prime time, prime rib, slurrrr rib. oh hell, then ali says lance runyon got sick there, like bloody stools. i cant stop laughing.

eat at rib city, in fruita.dems some damn good ribb-ins. baby back.

back in oct when i changed my name to prime time i hit a tree at wheeler and broke my rib, then it was changed to prime rib, then spencer calls me slur fox cuz he says when i hit a tree maching 5 , a 2 wheel drift down some sketchy trail i will be slurrrrring my words, hence the slur fox.
so the green lantern comes up with slurrrr rib, then in fruita im diggin the ribs. so it goes like this

rib eats ribs at the rib,... sluuurrrrrppp.

oh hell thats some good times.
ya and slowran was packin it on with the thick ribs.

yaaa

RMR saturday, i'm lookin forward to seein the stormin normin clinic. ya hes a small climber but dont under estimate the watts of young stormin.

he will put on a clinic im sure. SLC home of the stormin norman bryner clinic.

has anyone seen climb-um jones?

he looks like this guy

notice the skinny quads and massive calf muscles. yes, this is an old photo, he is 14. here is a more recent one.

he wont call me back, or bz, bobby, chan, revolution, or bart.

he is not at the races and is not riding, this is tragic.

climb-um twins...AWOL, missing. you might see this picture on a milk carton soon.

If you see this girl riding around town stop and and say "call sly or bz"

jones is MIA, no phone call returns, no texts, no emails. im thinkin he has been workin too much and switched teams. although i cant verify this susie is MIA as well, the pro tandem duo. known as the climb-um twins.

please get in contact with sly or bz asap, we miss you and want to climb high mountain passes with in view of these ripped calf muscles.

the other good news of the day is its spring, its warm and sunny. the green lantern wanted to go out for 6 hrs around mirror lake but i had to turn him down.
other good news is i re-posted my life auction then emailed it out to abc 4. they called me and im goin to do some thing with them tomorrow. i dont know what but some short interview or something. i hope some rich dude sees me and kicks down the cash.

riding trails in the sun

ya it gets better, still riding for hours upon hours a day, i lost count today, maybe 2.5 or 3.

on sweet 1 track. this is not the typical free way side walk 1 track. its twisty, rocky and tech with ledges and drop offs, my fave.

ya so its good times in warm weather and i keep finding cows. also i took the 22t ring off my cranks last week, runnin a 2x9, 29t granny/44t big ring, with a dura ace 11-27t in the back. it makes for some steep climbs.

im thinking of doing the moab rim ride but have not decided either way yet. im going to the norba in phoenix a week later and dont want to be tired, they may make me race expert there so if that happens it wont matter cuz the experts cant hang.

thats the other thing i need to do tomorrow, call usa cycling and get the upgrade.

slowran says i cant win the rim ride, i told him i could win it with 1 water bottle. if i could get sager and slowran to kick down 500 hundy i will prove them wrong.

anyone else want to sweetin the pot?

chasing cows

ripping fast 1 track in the high desert.
4 hrs of shredding, now im going to rib city. ya, baby back. at least its not raining here. but i did find a canyon with snow pack and mud.

10 guys from happy valley freeriding

these 10 guys i dont know them, bike pedaler in AF, are here with chippo going free riding, right now they are jumping curbs in the parking lot with 6" travel. yaaa , so its time to turn off the tv and get some shut eye.

but.......

tommy boy comes to mind. need sleepy. this is weird but oh well.

i found this video clip to explain a question i have been getting lately. like almost daily, maybe it will make sense to all the "almost girl friends" or to put an answer to the question, who ever reads this crap i write.

so why doesnt sly have a girl friend?

well im kind of wacked, i think you all have a clue about that, but watch this and subsitute the "sale" bread roll for the "gf" it hits the nail on head.

AND,..bobby has a good post and point. its a hobby for 99% of us. i know what hes saying though i have heard it before and i do agree with stupidbike.
the short convo goes like this: rider 1: "so bike shop A is givin me this and that" ya but i like your shop more," short pause.... "so what is your shop givin me?".... "im a sport class rider and finish in the top ten at sundance weds night,".... "im a pure climber and one day i might win the sport series",".... "i want entries, clothing, gas money and hotels"
shop manager/team manager/employees buckle over in laughter and keating says some sarcastic derogatory remark with expletives and put downs.

the worst mexican food in colorado

holy shit this restaurant sucks. pancho villas "2" in fruita. never go there. i hate mexican places that put velveeta on nachos. we were the only ones in there and now i know why. cherry pie and crappy nachos for dinner. wow i wonder how the legs will feel tomorrow.

that was the worst meal i have had in 4 years. now i know why i go to places i know rock. i would have rather eaten glass.
it looks like im eating this pile of shite but im digging around looking for something worth while. i didnt eat it, never would even when i was blown and bonked. i told the waitress to give it to the dog in back.
chippo was under cover with the phone cam.

chippo wanted to stop in moab

kevin trudeau is the man, i know kevin millet here in slc. hes the local man, and master bates will be racing before the summer all doped up on blood boosters like lance, im sure he will take down wolf and gallager in the 1 speed ICUP world championships.
on the way to fruita we stopped in moab for a day. i rode around in the desert for 4 hours, got lost a few times, hiked through the sage brush and found a skull.

i was thinking of the last time i was down here. it was april 2003. i raced the old hurrah pass jacobs ladder course. i was on fire that week and expected to win, i got something like 7th and i was pissed so i never came back down here. not even to watch the 24 hr in oct. its been 4 years since i was last here and its been 19 years since my first trip when i was 14. i rode slick rock in an hour and was remembering the days when it took me 1.5 hrs and totally bonked me, when i was 14.

we drove up to fruita after the self induced low glycemic bonk stupor. i only had 1/2 bottle of gatorade on my bike today. i didnt think i would get lost.
go figure. hiking in sand. yaaaa

im sure i can find some sweet 1 track here in town tomorrow for another 4.

Thursday, March 08, 2007

its raining so im goin to fruita

yesterday i was on fire, it was warm and nice out so got the road bike and ripped in traffic for 2.5 hrs. my favorite roads are state street, 3300 south and 7th east. rush hour is the best time of day to rally with the autos.

today its warm but wet, so that sucks. if anyone wants to meet us in fruita email me.

this guy is drivin, im just along for the ride. yaaa drunk ass.

we are going to be ripping up the trails for 3 days.

i will be dropping in the dh more frequently. i have to scare myself every few days to remember what its like going fast like the tomes and steve peat.
racing dh is obviously not the same as a xc dh. dh is power/skill/sprinting while fresh for 4 mins.
xc dh is trying to do that all blown and bonking after 1.5 or 2 hrs at 190hr. a different breed of dh, only for the most wacked bike riders.
check yourself.

i saw jeff bates yesterday, he had melanoma skin cancer cut off his head/neck and lymphnodes removed from his neck. skin graphs off his quad. major surgery. it looked major, and makes you think youre not invinceable.
cancer is cancer what ever name they call it.

good luck to the bates family, he will be back on the 1 speed before summer.

my soapbox:

i got this link from the wolf
i never use sunscreen, its poison, i have never had alcohol or drugs, im not mormon, not really religious. im just hard core straight edge gangsta.

im not talking bout jeff here, but i do agree and have many opinions on how cancer invades the body and how it is eliminated.
i could go on for awhile here so i will keep it short.

sunscreen causes cancer, acid in the body causes it, you get acid from bad diet etc. not hard to figure out. once the acid/alkaline is balanced in the body cancers and diseases go away. you dont need hospitals and drugs to fix this. you can do it on your own from stuff at wild oats.

Most chemical sunscreens contain from 2 to 5% of benzophenone or its derivatives (oxybenzone, benzophenone-3) as their active ingredient. Benzophenone is one of the most powerful free radical generators known to man. It is used in industrial processes to initiate chemical reactions and promote cross-linking(15). Benzophenone is activated by ultraviolet light. The absorbed energy breaks benzophenone's double bond to produce two free radical sites. The free radicals desperately look for a hydrogen atom to make them "feel whole again"(15). They may find this hydrogen atom among the other ingredients of the sunscreen, but it is conceivable that they could also find it on the surface of the skin and thereby initiate a chain reaction which could ultimately lead to melanoma and other skin cancers. Researchers at the Harvard Medical School have recently discovered that psoralen, another ultraviolet light-activated free radical generator, is an extremely efficient carcinogen. They found that the rate of squamous cell carcinoma among patients with psoriasis, who had been repeatedly treated with UVA light after a topical application of psoralen, was 83 times higher than among the general population(16).The benefits of sunlightSome scientists believe that UV light causes skin cancer through the combined effect of suppression of the immune system and damage to DNA(10,17). Exposure to UV light is, however, not all bad. Most of the body's vitamin D supply, about 75% of it, is generated by the skin's exposure to UVB rays(18). Using a sunscreen drastically lowers the cutaneous production of vitamin D3(19). A low blood level of vitamin D is known to increase the risk for the development of breast and colon cancer and may also accelerate the growth of melanoma
they dont want you to know this because its a scam and huge money maker for the health care industry.

basically it goes like this,
get them sick on crappy food, make them fat and lazy, then ream them with insurance and health care costs with drugs and surgery that is not needed.
dont get me wrong surgery for trauma is wonderful. it is needed for emergencies. but not for 90% of what it is currently used for.

hope you get my message. i have to hit the road, white line fever.

la verdad

my legs are wrecked from running down a mtn for 10 mins. thanks green lantern.

well he tells me hes the national biathlon champion and that is a 12 min hike up, 400 vertical. nothing hard.
ya its the run down.
he sent me this, and if you speak spanish, la verdad.

The Sly SHow

13 thumbs up

"The Sly Show" is the most irreverent, unpredictable, and insane talk show - ever. Sly is the Hip Hop Howard Stern; dropping bombs like Funkmaster Flex and calling everybody (and their mama) out like Wendy Williams on a bad day. Add a little Andy Milonakis-style hilarity, mix in Sly's unmistakable voice; and you get the loud-mouthed, prank-callin', dozens-playing obnoxious shock jock of the century - SLY.

i have been resting for 2 days so maybe i might hit the road bike up for a few hours. mike over at canyon got me a new carbon rocky mtn road bike. no pay till sept.!!!
thanks to john olden, and mike, and robby. thanks to all, i'm buying barbacoa today.
now i guess i have to go to rmr every week and help them shred the porcs.

ya this guy is jumping the tour de france.
sweet.

pals

its good to be at the races with lots of pals. 4 days in the sun, bikes, trails, friends. i liked the dinner at don pedros with 15 of us bothering the waitress. riding for 2 miles behind sager and bart. riding a few laps with bryson, hes pretty good on the dh.

riding the goulds/jem loop with kathy chris and chan, sleeping and chilling at the condo with sara, craig, sager, kathy and chris. running up the mtn even know it sucked. then driving back and waiting for the next one. good times, there were many more but i dont want to write a book.

man it was warm yesterday.

i think im going to do this next week.

big time training

this was me today, with out the waves. get up at 10 go to the bear paw. come back at 1pm. sleep till 4. im wasted and tired. so im goin to bajio to pig out.

im still down here in dixie. its 75 and sunny, i should live here.

im opening up a training compound south with 6 spare beds for the homies coming down.

yaa

i forgot about team rico, he said he won expert by 11mins. thats sweet, him and dh on the lowdown should move to dirt full time. this is where all the chicks and glory is any way.

Sunday, March 04, 2007

the day after

i hammered out the goulds jem virgin loop today with about 15 other pals who think bikes are cool. it wasnt the typical ride, it kind of went like this.

the group slowly trickled out of the lot in packs of 2 or 3. not everyone wanted to hammer or ride in a big pack as the ability levels were widely varied. so i dont really want to wait around all day anyway. so i left last like 15 mins behind everyone. took off with cody and shannon for awhile they stopped and i just kept going like lionel richey. all night long.
too bad the green lantern was baby sitting slowran. he missed out.
i ripped that loop in 1hr 50. they should do a race out there it would the best single loop race i ever did. its perfect.

i got to the jem switchback and caught chan, tw, joss, kathy , chris. the best part was the timing of this. we all got to the switch back at the same time. these pansies were walking down it. chan and tw. big sissy, then kathy rips down it with no problem. making them feel like beginners.
yaaa
then we let it rip through the next 5 miles of dh and hauling ass through the desert. im tired my legs hurt and i beat myself up pretty good over 3 days so im cashed and ready to nap.

i got this pic from kday yesterday, handing out 40's in the feed zone. i left that one for bz. too bad he wasnt here to grab it.

bz the lush.
heres blaney and kday doing spectator duty. but really should be lining up with us.

bryson tried to drop the hammer but i think it fell out of his pocket.

lap 4 getting ready to drop the bomb. thats why he calls me the rattle snake, when i sense trouble, i strike.

who says you cant ride a lefty no handed.
skills, baby,

skills.
