Summer just started and the race series is pretty much over? WTF? I thought mtn bike racing was a summer sport?

StupidBike said...

There was no mud on the new 7 mile long lap, except for a few feet past the creek crossing.
There are 6 Icups remaining, as well as mid week races, and a few endurance races.

Oh, and we don't need a license.

Bob, the series is too heavy in the spring, my two cents. For those that work, Mid week racing is for the birds.

ed makes it loaded in the spring because he knows how bikers operate. hes been doing this race series since 1992 and he has seen how nobody shows up in august. he wants to make money and not waste his time so when all the racers are burned out (except for bob) in july and august he wants numbers, but this year a few races have been rained out, too bad for his numbers. if there are not as many races in utah in the spring the racers will travel to them and get burned any how, so he project to load it early and cash in.

the numbers drop off because the venues turn to shit in the summer. who wants to pay $40 grind up a service road 5 times at a ski area? suckers, I will be riding single track for free

Train, you would say otherwise if you were 3 feet shorter:)

3 feet huh,... that would be a fast climber with 400 watts at 3 foot 4 inches. power midget wins icup, drops the beagle by 15....

ICUP needs a sick point to point race or giant loop race in the series.

icup needs turbos savior refs calling the shots, dont be satisfied with half ass work. RAISE THE BAR!!!!!!!

StupidBike said...

Raise the bar for sure, the I-CUP does, there were over 400 people registered including over 70 juniors for the Draper race, @ 50 transferred their fee to another race as they had holiday plans, how many people raced Sugar House? Would I be able to transfer an entry there? How many juniors were there? I am not calling out road racing, I am asking how do we grow the sport, with good customer service and an inclusive attitude, or not??

Ed makes money at what he does, as he should, is it perfect, of course not, but he is friendly, calm and understanding, he runs an excellent series and the numbers of participants continue to grow year after year. That says something.

Forrest, if you build it, they will come. If we don't like something it is up to us to change it, problem is, the popularity and participant numbers in the Icup speaks for itself. I see no changes needed.

The one MTN race I did was the PC Endurance race. We did the team relay, paid the 100+ dollars per person to race, won by over 2.5 hours, and the prize was a BMX style jersey, a chinzy medal, some tire levers, shitty "Ryders" glasses, and a tube.

Wow.

I took 2nd, at a brand new Crit with almost no support from racers (since it was on Sunday) and walked away with $100 in my pocket.

Maybe something does need to change in the Mtn. Racing?

cuz you did the lamest race in the whole state. you paid the most because boris ran it, you won because i wasnt there.

bad 1st impression to the utah mtn scene. shame on team rico for ruining your life.

theres a reason boris' race series went out of biz and eds series is 18 yrs and running.

Bob, you take comments the wrong way. First of all I respect Ed and the series, he has responded to every email I have ever sent him and acted on suggestions. But you are way to sensitive in general when people make a criticism about things, especially racing. There is such a thing as constructive criticism. First of all I have been too busy snowboarding to race my bike during the best snow conditions of the year, hence why I would like to see more races later in the season and I agree with Art people didnt come because of the courses. Also saying the series needs a good point to point is not saying the series suck, I am just saying it would be nice. Many race courses I did in Colorado make Utah look pathetic. Thats not saying our series sucks, but an honest critique. Also I think people have a valid point in saying that maybe the pros should get a bigger payout. Most races back east have 100% payout back to the pros. I give to Slowrain for finally listening to the racers and making the cross series better and better every year. If people blow up about some critisicm, then the sport wont grow.

I'm not sure where I blew up or saw any real criticism, maybe I am dense.

BTW, Sept 5th there will be an epic point to point in PC, 70-100 miles, website up soon.
