I rode the worst trail in the world today

i feel like typing a long one so here you go.

after all these years in many states i found the worst trail on the planet today.
lava rama is horrible, cow trails, meadows, grass, the most terrible non flow trail i have ever found.

you may ask, well sly what makes a bad trail.

1- when 1000's of cows walk in mud it leaves 4" deep hoove tracks, then the trail gets hard and it ruins the trail.

2- no flow turns on steep rutted out rocky trails
no flow is stop and go, riding the brakes not going fast and trying not to pinch flat on sharp loose baby head rocks.

the worst.

3- climbing a dirt road in 90 degree heat, with no shade, dripping sweat, arms and hands soaked, cant grip slippery grip shift. glasses covered in salt and sweat.

it keeps going up, then it gets steeper and then you ride on grass with fresh piles of cow shit all over.

4- add in lappers on the dh, really steep rutted out and bumpy 40mph field down hills with no where to pass, so rough the scalpel just about bucked me off, trying avoid dh race jump ramps for 9" travel bikes.

5- sage brush all over, broken branches from trees stabbing you in the neck, ducking and dodging 4 wheelers and breathing exhaust.

hellll yaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
yeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaawwwwwwww ride em cowboy!!!!!

if you didnt go to this race today you didnt miss a damn thing. dont ever go to it. it sucks donkey balls.

if you stayed in the big SLC, PC or UC, did road rides, shredded wasatch 1 track at altitude and had a good day. good for you, i should have done the same.

i am glad i did go, just so i could tell you how bad that trail sucks.

add all that to the worst day i have had on the bike all year and that tells you i got my ass kicked today.

this is crazy nate, he lives in logan and rips the scalpel. team bikers edge.

so there i was no watts. maybe puttin out like 150 today. feeling terrible, no power, arms weak, bouncing around the cow trail like a beginner. 3 guys up the road, i can see them but cant do anything about it.

i almost dropped out like 10 times, but then i had visions of sager in the razor back state a few months ago suffering on cipro. like a little dawg that just got kicked down and beat up. if i get 4th, i get 60 bucks, all the entry fees and some gas, so just suffer like a dawg for another lap and just deal with it.

come around the 1st lap in front with 4 guys, thinking i just sucked, we are going so slow and im at the front of a race. man this sucks.

i thought to myself, i could go home, i could just sit at the pool, i could jump my bike off the diving board and make a jackass out of myself.

but no i kept pedaling, its only 18 miles how much of a pansie are you, so i ride on. feeling like a beginner,

then crazy nate catches up and we shredded for a few miles until there was the finish line and nate was right on my wheel.

good job nate, you were on fire. glad to be the carrot dangling out front.

this loose rocky shit trail, im thinking to myself, i dont know where hell i am, this trail sucks, i cant let off the brakes, its off camber, gravel, steep, loose shit, my tires are breaking loose all over, sharp baby heads, switch backs and sand. what kind of hell trail is this???

then i come up on this section and i say out loud WTF?!@!?!!??!, this lady at the water zone hears me and then scolds me for swearing, i didnt even see her, i didnt even know she heard me.

i thought, chica... if you knew what kind of hell im in right now you wouldnt be lecturing me, cuz i could get all gangsta on yo ass, hoe.

then i found these 2.

team blue dart racing, mizzy, bogart and pete. the dh is tomorrow and his truck broke down 5 miles from lava so i picked them up and towed the blue dart casa back to the park where they are camping out.

this is the worst course on the planet, dont race it. bobby told me and i didnt listen. now i know what he was talkin bout.
after about 20 years in this biking game i still learn new things daily, of course. things changes and times change, bodies change, perceived exertion is crazy. 2 days ago i felt fine, had power, today there was nothing. push hard and no answer, last week i was dead, then at 5 mile i feel 100%, this week i feel ok, then today i got nothing.
worst day of 2007 on the bike, get it out of the way. i have 3 more months of shredding to do and dont want any of this nonsense.
take a nap, rest up and die another day.

Should have stayed and done Mueller Grueller. That Vello Bella chick looks like she wants me.

I had the worst day on the bike so far too. Glad to hear I am not the only one suffering. Nappy time

i was thinking of doing my first mountain bike race. Glad I didn't go....good to get inside of your head. We all have those thoughts on the off days....but the good days make it so worth while. You don't think you just SHRED.....yaaaaaaa!!!
